T his month’s photo was taken at one of the world’s most famous golf courses, Augusta National Golf Club, where I had the honor of covering this year’s Drive, Chip and Putt competition as a member of the press. In addition to seeing many of the top juniors from around the country, I got to walk the grounds on a picture-perfect spring day and meet some well-known former Masters champions, which you can read about in this month’s feature article. Hopefully, many of you watched the coverage on the Golf Channel, and maybe even saw some of your friends. The smiles were everywhere, from the junior players to their siblings, parents and grandparents alike. This competition, in just its 4th year, has become a goal for junior golfers everywhere. Augusta National, the PGA and the USGA should be commended for the inspiration and creativity that brought this event from a mere thought to reality. While on the premises, I was able to visit the new state-of-the-art Media Center. I over- heard one journalist call it the Taj Mahal of media centers, and I would strongly concur. The staff everywhere was hospitable, friendly and truly interested in one thing – making sure everyone’s experience was one to remember. There are only a few things in sports that always live up to the hype. I would name Augusta National as one which consistently exceeds expectations with its immaculate landscaping, natural beauty and serenity. If you ever have the opportunity to apply for Drive, Chip and Putt tickets, do so....you will not be disappointed.
