FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT: The camp utilizes prime facilities, such as La Costa and other resorts, or the kids get to sample quality college facilities and golf courses. Instructors provide a variety of popular training systems such as TrackMan, FlightScope and others. AGE GROUPS: Any junior golfer between the ages of 10 to 18 may attend the camp. LODGING: The vast majority of the kids enjoy overnight accommodations at host hotels or at time share condominiums. EVENING ACTIVITIES: In the evenings, camp guests often get to have dinner with the various coaches who visit the camp. Besides an informal meet ‘n greet, instructors often divide up the coaches and kids, and let them rotate every 10 to 15 minutes to facilitate quality interaction for all. Parents are also encouraged to participate with their children at the camp. LENGTH OF OPERATION: College Golf Camps is entering its fourth year. The concept was created so that young golfers could learn more about what college golf looks like and how to achieve their college goals. UNIQUE FEATURES: “This is really a college exposure camp,” explains Nick Rook, president of College Golf Camps. “Attendees can look forward to total immersion with the coaches. For instance, we typically have about 18 college coaches who attend each camp. So there is a real chance to showcase yourself as well as your golf game.” NikeGolfCamps(U.S.SportsCamps) LOCATION: These camps are held at over 115 different locations throughout the United States. CAMP DATES: The bulk of the programs are staged during the summer months as four- or five-day events. Originally offered in eight locations, the number of camps has mushroomed since Nike began its sponsorship in 1994. FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT: No two locations are alike, though the basic framework is designed to be consistent. Many camp programs utilize V1 motion analysis systems, TrackMan, FlightScope monitors and other cutting edge technologies. Nike Camps are hosted by some of the nation’s most impressive golf facilities. AGE GROUPS: Day camps are offered for beginners to intermediate players, ages 6 to 15. Overnight campers range in age from 10 to 18, while more competitive “advanced camps” are geared to players from 12 to 18. Nike Golf Camps introduced short game schools for serious players wishing to hone their game even further. LODGING: Participants are hosted at the dorm facilities of major colleges and universities. They often enjoy meals at the campus dining halls, where they are provided a close-up glimpse of college life. Other locations offer overnight accom- modations at resort hotels or condominiums. EVENING/WEEKEND ACTIVITIES: Various choices, such as mall trips, movies, putt-putt golf, baseball games and even beach treks, are available to young campers. Adult staff members supervise the kids on these forays, which are designed to ensure memorable fun. LENGTH OF OPERATION: 2017 will be the 24th year that the camps have operated under Nike’s sponsorship. UNIQUE FEATURES: “Kids get a real competitive advantage at our camps, thanks in large part to the Nike name and quality staff of coaches and professionals,” notes Nick Brunner, Vice President of Nike Golf Camps. “We hold our coaches to the highest standards and offer a proven curriculum that has more than 20 years behind it. One of the really cool things is that one year a player might go to one location, and the following year attend a different camp and get a new experience with the same Nike Golf Camp quality.” Clearly, junior golf camps have become as synonymous with summer as walking barefoot in the grass, family trips to Disney theme attractions, waterslides and concerts in the park. Need a reason to go? Well, not only can they help improve your golf game, but golf camps introduce you to new friends and give you something fun to remember all winter long.
