ACADEMYPROFILE BuildingChampionsinGolfandLifeBYJUNIORGOLFSTAFF G reg Norman Champions Golf Acade- my (GNCGA) is more than just a school with a famous name attached to it. It’s a full-time boarding golf academy with middle school, high school and post-graduate pro- grams, junior summer camps and customized programs that combine both college prepa- ratory academics, intensive golf training and lifetime fundamentals. These intensive indi- vidualized golf training methods are provided to top elite players from around the world. The second-largest training facility of its type in the world, GNCGA is located in North Myr- tle Beach, South Carolina, at Barefoot Resort and Golf, with access to four designer golf courses. Greg Norman himself was involved in the golf course design and construction. The Greg Norman Champions Golf Acad- emy was created in 2010 to meet the needs of top golfers at every stage of their amateur and professional development. The acade- my’s 10,000+-square foot facility houses two classrooms, full locker rooms, a one-of-a-kind gym featuring Cybex V1 equipment, and three hitting bays for practice in inclement weather. Each bay is equipped with V-1 video analysis and Trackman technology to assist with cap- turing and recording the golfer’s swing. Director of Golf Scott Shobe, along with the academy’s other certified coaches, guides the junior golfers on a daily basis. Students re- ceive one-on-one training as well as group instruction, Monday through Saturday. They also benefit by playing on the four completely different golf courses, individually designed by Norman, Davis Love III, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. The Dye course has annually hosted the “Monday after the Masters” Celebrity Pro- Am event for the last 12 years. With customized golf programs, GNCGA assures that its personal training system uses Greg Norman’s techniques, which kept him Number One in the world for 331 weeks. These techniques include commitment, dedi- Students come to GNCGA from all over the world July 2017 | 25 Subscribe today at juniorgolfmag.net cation, time, discipline and sticking to the plan that is drawn every year.
